• Remove brush and leaves from under shrubs and around grassy areas and put them in the compost pile.


• Last call for planting spring bulbs.


• Turn soil in any unused beds to expose dormant underground insects to the killing cold. This also allows the freezing and thawing effect of winter to break clods up naturally.


• Now is the time to take and submit soil samples of your garden or lawn areas.


• Be sure to drain the garden hose and bring it in for the winter.


• Make a map of your garden, showing the location of every tree, shrub, and flower bed. This will come in handy during the planning month of January.


• It's still okay to plant nursery plants, water is still essential.
